New Year, Better Me.

“New year, new me!”… not quite.

I won’t become a different person this year. I will still be me, but I will become a better me. The turn of the new year is an opportunity to change your lifestyle and commit to making healthier decisions for yourself. I have made a list of my new year’s resolutions that you should consider adopting as your own resolutions.

1) Commit to a daily skincare regimen.

As a girl in my early 20’s, I know how important it is to care for my skin NOW in order for it to look my best as I age. I’m ready to put the acne wash aside and start using something more gentle that doesn’t treat my skin like the enemy. I have been doing my research on different products and can’t wait to start testing them to discover my favorites! *Be on the lookout for a post soon about the skincare regimen I like best*

2) Drink more water.

What we put ON our skin is one thing, but what we put IN our bodies is another. Staying hydrated is one of the keys to having healthy, glowing skin. Drinking water does more than care for just our skin though, it helps just about everything. Drinking enough water can prevent headaches, help with digestion, weight loss, improve mental and physical performance, along with many other perks. Breaking Muscle says to drink half of your body weight in ounces. So If I weigh 110 pounds, I should be drinking 55 ounces of water daily. I am now committed to drinking the recommended amount of water for my body each day starting now! *Sips water*

3) Use my phone less.

I am pretty good about the amount of time I spend on my phone but I still want to focus on spending even less time on it this year. I always put my phone away during meals and that’s one thing I will continue to do. More importantly, I want to take everything in. Life isn’t about experiencing things for other people to see, even if you’re a blogger. It’s important to remember that your life is for you. So put the phone down and be present.

4) Get away more.

Pack a bag and take a weekend trip somewhere with someone you love. It’s easy to get caught up in things that don’t matter. Don’t be afraid to get away. There are so many inexpensive ways to travel nowadays, too. So take advantage of companies like Airbnb and get out of town!

I am really excited about my four resolutions for 2017 because they are attainable. Make sure your new year’s resolutions are realistic so you can make them happen and become a better version of yourself this year!

Leave a comment and let me know what your resolutions are this year!

Happy 2017!

Bikinis in January… yes.

Don’t wait until hot weather rolls around, buy your spring break swimsuit wardrobe NOW! You’ll thank me later.

We ladies love to have a selection of swimsuits which is not cheap. Even buying a single high quality swimsuit can put a dent in your wallet. The best thing to do before spring break rolls around is to start buying them ASAP while swimsuits aren’t in season. You’ll find plenty of markdowns and sales that you won’t find ANYWHERE once March rolls around.

One of the best ways I hunt down the best swimsuit deals is finding where I can get them for free (lol, I’m on a college budget). Go on your Instagram explore page and look for models who post bikini pictures because often times, those social media influencers (like myself) have giveaways! If the price you have to pay for a chance to win a free swimsuit is to follow a swimsuit company, it’s well worth it.

If you don’t get lucky finding a giveaway, chances are you will find plenty of discount codes and swimsuit companies holding sales to get rid of any bikinis they have leftover from last season.

Don’t wait until Spring! You’ll end up paying far more than you want to. Check out some of my favorite swimsuits:

This gorgeous one-piece from Red Carter:

And this super comfortable sexy black velvet bikini from Bikini Junkie:

I hope you try out these brands and love them as much as I do! Happy winter bikini shopping 😉

How to care for your skin while traveling

I have lots of skincare tips, but today I would like to share my skincare tips specifically for when you are traveling by airplane.

I recently was traveling from the United States to Europe and within Europe, I was traveling by plane to explore different countries. I know how my skin reacts to the extraordinarily low level of humidity in the air inside an airplane, and I wanted to share some tips I have gathered with you!

Whether you have oily skin, dry skin, or a combination, your skin will be affected. Our skin is what holds us all together and it deserves to be taken care of! Don’t let the dry air inside an aircraft take a toll on your skin. If you have dry skin, your skin will get extra dry. If you have oily skin, your skin will get oilier to compensate for the dryness. Who wants that?! Here are a list of some tips to help you be prepared:

  1. Avoid wearing makeup while traveling.
    • I like to wear makeup every day, but if you can avoid wearing liquid foundation and powder foundation your skin will thank you! And besides, you can always hide behind a pair of sunglasses if you really are afraid of anyone seeing you bare-faced.
    • BUT, there is never anything wrong with some lip gloss and mascara.
  2. Before taking a flight, be sure to moisturize your whole body.
    • Whole body includes your face, lips, and hands too!
  3. Bring travel-sized body lotion, moisturizer, chapstick, and hand lotion in your carry on!
    • It is so important to keep hydrating your body during the course of a long flight. Make sure to check the sizes of your liquids before bringing them in your carry-on bag. You can bring as many 3.4 ounce containers of liquids that will fit in a quart-sized bag.
  4. Drink water.
    • Stay hydrated from the inside out!

If you are taking an international flight, these tips will be extra helpful to you. You will walk off your flight with luminous, beautifully hydrated skin.

Safe travels!

How to Liv like Liv

A common question for me lately is “how do you travel?”

Well, for one thing, I am studying abroad so I have been living in Florence, Italy for 5 weeks and counting. I have tips and tricks for fellow young adults looking to travel the world.

Save your money.

One of the best parts about traveling is immersing yourself in the different culture(s). Wait to travel until you have saved up enough money to be able to truly adapt to the lifestyle of the places you want to go.

Take advantage of spontaneity.

Yes, wait to travel until you are financially ready. But once you are abroad, take advantage of every opportunity presented to you. Live like it is the only time you will visit that place. Airfare, trains, and busses are much cheaper to travel around Europe than they are in the United States. For example, for me living in Florence, I can book a train last-minute to another city in Italy for as little as 8 euro for a fun day trip.

Be cautious with travel agencies.

There are good travel agencies and there are bad travel agencies. It is worth researching before you book with one. They are good to use to get a low rate on travel and stay for weekend trips, but make sure you know what is included and what isn’t. You don’t want to have to deal with surprise expenses. It’s also important to know if any planned itinerary is mandatory or not. Some people like to follow planned itinerary but if you’re like me, you like to do your own thing. I took advantage of travel agencies to save money on travel and stay but I made sure I would be able to do what I wanted to do upon arrival.

Get to know the locals.

Whether or not you are in a city for an extended period of time, meet the locals. It’s the best way to discover authentic restaurants and less touristy places to go. It will also help you adapt to the culture and understand the different lifestyle.

Take advantage of every moment you have abroad.

As I said before, travel like you won’t travel to the place you’re in again. Get up early, see the city, try new things, experience the nightlife. There is no time to be lazy while you’re abroad!

Happy travels!

Liv Abroad

Those of you who keep up with me on my Instagram know that I am spending the next few weeks studying abroad in Italy. I have been having the time of my life trying new foods and immersing myself in the different culture. If there is anything I have learned over my first two weeks here, it is to take advantage of traveling while you’re young. As a young adult, my responsibilities are minimal and I have much more freedom than I will have in the future when I have a career and a family of my own.

I am taking this period of my life to focus on personal growth and to expand my perception of the world. I only have these 6 weeks abroad in the experience of a lifetime and I am making the best of it! I can’t wait to share all of my travel stories and photos with you. Mini Grand Canyon?

I am one of those people who is always seeking adventure. Recently I discovered a place I had never heard about and it blew my mind. Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin, Georgia is amazing. If you live on the east coast and can’t make your way out to the Grand Canyon, you should 100% visit Providence Canyon State Park.

It is a much smaller scale than the Grand Canyon but really just as beautiful. These are all photos I captured on my iPhone. Pretty incredible.

I was able to share this adventure with my beloved boyfriend, Max. We started off on the top of the canyon. We may or may not have hopped a fence to scale the canyon ourselves… but I’ll leave that to your imagination. It was incredible to be standing at the top, inches away from the edge where you can see a view that truly can’t be described with words. Take a look at this.

Risky, I guess.

We then wanted to see what the bottom of the canyon looked like. And there, we found the most adventure. The night before our trip to the canyons, there was a huge rain storm in the area. Once we got to the bottom, there was practically a river of the rainwater washing down from the canyons. Needless to say, my sneakers got ruined. So if you plan on going, maybe consider bringing water shoes.

Being at the base of the canyon was incredible. We were completely surrounded by the red and orange Georgia clay. I felt like a little kid again being able to climb everything around me.

This ever-evolving canyon is a must-visit for my fellow adventurers. Be sure to visit Providence Canyon State Park the next time you are in Georgia. If you’re anything like me, you will love it. Especially YOU my fellow Seminoles! This place is only about 2.5 hours away from FSU!

Hidden Treasure of NC: Robbinsville

If you are someone who loves to discover new places to travel to, I have a recommendation for you. In the very southwest corner of North Carolina is Robbinsville, one of my new favorite places to explore.

There are many places for you to rent a cabin to stay for a little or for a while. I was fortunate enough to stay in a cabin at the top of a mountain where the porch overlooked the Smoky Mountains. It was breathtaking and looked a little something like this:

The view was so beautiful from our cabin that I could have sat there all day and been beyond satisfied. Just gorgeous.

In a small town like Robbinsville, there are so many adventures waiting to be discovered. Like the waterfall we came across not far from where we were staying called Mingo Falls. My travel companions and I had an absolute blast balancing on rocks and logs trying to cross the river at the bottom of the waterfall. But you have to be careful in the winter because that water was COLD! Don’t fall in!

My favorite part about the trip was a drive we took up one of the many mountains around Robbinsville. We ended up seeing one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen in my life. This photo doesn’t do it justice but no words I can string together could do it justice either. So just look at it:

Just incredible. It was the closest to heaven I have ever felt. I highly recommend visiting Robbinsville, NC. It is one of my absolute favorite places in the world and I can’t wait to go back.
